How to Clean a Paracord Bracelet
Paracord bracelets are tough, reliable, and great for outdoor use. But over time, they collect dirt, sweat, grime, and can get super disgusting. If you continue wearing your dirty bracelet, it can cause skin irritation, smell bad, or even weaken the cord. Here’s how to clean yours.

Why You Should Clean Your Paracord Bracelet
Sweat, dirt, and bacteria can build up quickly in your paracord bracelet, especially if you wear it often or during outdoor activities. This will not just make your bracelet disgusting, but over time, this grime can weaken the fibers. So clean your bracelet!
What You’ll Need
-
Bowl or sink
-
Mild liquid soap, like dish soap or hand soap
-
Soft toothbrush or nail brush
-
Towel
-
Optional: baking soda or vinegar (for strong smells)
How to Clean a Paracord Bracelet
Step 1: Remove the Bracelet
If your bracelet has a metal clasp or watch attachment, remove it if possible to protect it from moisture damage. If it can’t be removed, avoid soaking that part for too long.
Step 2: Prepare the Cleaning Solution
Fill a bowl or sink with warm water. Add a few drops of mild soap and mix. Don’t use harsh detergents, bleach, or alcohol-based cleaners as they can damage the cord fibers.
Step 3: Soak the Bracelet
Place the bracelet in the soapy water and let it soak for 5 to 10 minutes to loosen any dirt or sweat trapped in the fibers. If the bracelet is very dirty or stiff, let it soak for up to 15 minutes.
Step 4: Scrub Gently
Gently scrub the bracelet with a soft toothbrush or nail brush. Focus on any stained or dirty areas. Scrub in the direction of the weave to avoid fraying the fibers.
If your bracelet smells bad, you can sprinkle a little baking soda on it and scrub again. Or you can soak it in a mix of water and white vinegar (50/50) for 10 minutes before scrubbing.
Step 5: Rinse and Dry
Rinse the bracelet under clean running water until all the soap is gone. Press the bracelet with a towel to remove extra water. Lay it flat on a dry towel and leave it to air dry completely. Avoid direct sunlight or heat (like a dryer or hairdryer), as it can weaken the nylon fibers.
What Not to Do
-
Don’t use bleach or strong chemicals.
-
Don’t toss it in a washing machine.
-
Don’t dry it in the sun or a machine.
-
Don’t scrub with rough brushes or steel wool.
Can You Wash a Paracord Bracelet in the Washing Machine?
No. While some people do it, machines can damage the weave, especially if it’s a tightly braided or multi-color design. If you must use a machine:
-
Place the bracelet in a mesh laundry bag or pillowcase.
-
Use cold water and a gentle cycle.
-
Skip the dryer and lay it flat to dry.
Summary
Paracord bracelets are low maintenance, but they still need cleaning now and then.
